In this book, Sinclair attacks institutionalized religion as a "source of income to parasites, and the natural ally of every form of oppression and exploitation." Sinclair also questions the Catholic Church which despite having large system of charity, treats (in his view) the symptoms rather than the disease: they do not question the economic arrangements that make people poor. Whether one agrees or disagrees with Sinclair's multiple critiques, it is worthwhile to not ignore and to spend time reading his point of view.
